Permanent Lighting: two-story stucco home with red and warm white C9 roofline lights

Permanent Holiday Lighting for Bunker Hill Village Homes

Permanent Christmas lights in Bunker Hill Village make the most sense on the tall custom homes that have replaced many of the village's original ranches. Two-story walls, steep gables and long soffit runs mean serious ladder and lift work every November and again in January. A permanent system mounts once, in a slim aluminum track under the eaves that holds individually addressable RGBW LED nodes, and stays in place year-round. From a phone app you can switch to warm white for Christmas, orange and purple for Halloween, red, white and blue for July 4th, or Astros navy and orange on a playoff night, without anyone climbing a ladder.

It earns its place on ordinary nights, too. Village lots are heavily wooded, and after sunset a drive under tall pines gets very dark. A soft warm-white setting along the eaves lights the perimeter of the house, helps guests and delivery drivers find the door, and adds a sense of security without floodlights glaring into a neighbor's windows. Because RGBW nodes include a dedicated white diode, warm white looks like real white light rather than the bluish blend that red, green and blue alone produce. By day the track reads as part of the house, which suits the understated look most village streets favor.

  • ✓ Mounted once, used every night
  • ✓ Dedicated white diode for clean white
  • ✓ Holiday and game day scenes by date
  • ✓ Slim track that reads as trim by day

How a Permanent System Is Planned and Installed

The process starts with measuring every eave, gable and soffit run that will carry track. The plan sets out which rooflines to include, how runs turn corners and cross gable peaks, and which zones you want to control separately, such as the front facade, the garage wing and the back patio. Node spacing is chosen for your rooflines, closer on eaves you see up close and wider on high second-story runs. On install day the crew mounts the aluminum track, sets the nodes, seals every connection, conceals the low-voltage wire and walks you through the app before leaving.

Permanent lighting is a different product from our seasonal service, and the permanent Christmas lights overview explains how the system works across Houston. On wooded village lots, the roofline is only part of the picture. You can add a seasonal layer each holiday season, installed in November to go with the roofline's Christmas scene: mini light wraps on the pines and live oaks out front, lit garland at the door and wreaths on the gate, all handled by our Christmas light installation crew in Bunker Hill Village and removed in January. The roofline then stays ready for Halloween, July 4th and every game night in between.

  • ✓ Every eave and soffit run measured
  • ✓ Front, garage and patio zones
  • ✓ RGBW nodes in a slim aluminum track
  • ✓ Sealed connections, concealed wiring
  • ✓ App walk-through on install day

Permanent Track Planner

Planning Permanent Lights for a Bunker Hill Village Home

A permanent system becomes part of your house for years, so the planning questions differ from a seasonal display. Trim color, where the power supply plugs in, future roof and gutter work, and how the lights behave on ordinary nights all deserve a decision before install day. Here is what to settle first.

01

Soffit or Fascia: Let the Overhang Decide

Many original ranches here have deep overhangs, and mounting the track under the soffit hides it almost completely from the street. Newer two-stories with tight overhangs or a boxed eave may need fascia mounting just below the gutter, where the track finish has to match the fascia color exactly: dark track for black or bronze gutters, white for white or cream trim. Send close-ups of each eave type, and tell us if a section is stucco or stone so we can plan mounting hardware for that surface.

02

Know Where the Power Supply Will Plug In

The system's power supply and controller need an existing outlet, and the garage is the usual spot: it stays cooler than a Houston attic and is easy to reach, with low-voltage wire running out to the track. Look for an outlet near the front of the garage and check that it stays on full-time rather than being controlled by a wall switch. We plan power from existing outlets; if you would like a new dedicated outlet in a more convenient spot, have your electrician add it before install day.

03

Tell Roofers and Gutter Crews About the Track

Pines and oaks fill village gutters every fall, so gutter cleaning and the occasional roof repair are routine here. Track mounted below the gutter or under the soffit stays clear of that work, but a crew leaning ladders on the fascia or replacing gutters needs to know it is there. Keep a photo of the layout handy, ask service crews to work around the track, and call us before a re-roof or new gutters so we can plan any removal and remount.

04

Schedule by Sunset, Not the Clock

Houston's sunset swings from about 5:20 pm in early December to after 8:20 pm in late June, so a fixed 6 pm start is wrong most of the year. Use the app's sunset-based schedule, with warm white coming on at dusk and switching off at a set time such as 11 pm. Then layer date-based scenes on top: a Christmas palette from Thanksgiving weekend to New Year's Day, Halloween colors for the last week of October, and team colors on game nights.

Bunker Hill Village Permanent Lighting FAQ

+How much do permanent Christmas lights cost in Bunker Hill Village?
Permanent systems are priced per home, and a free design consult, on site or from photos, comes before any quote. The biggest factors are the total feet of track, the number of stories and whether second-story eaves need a lift, how many corners and gable peaks the runs cross, how many separately controlled zones you want, and the mounting surface. Our permanent lights cost guide explains how track length and zones affect a quote.
+Do I need approval for permanent lights in Bunker Hill Village?
Check before install, because permanent track is a fixture that stays on the house, not a seasonal decoration. Read your deed restrictions for clauses on exterior lighting or alterations, ask your association whether a submittal is needed, and ask the City of Bunker Hill Village whether a permit applies to low-voltage lighting fixed to the eaves. We supply spec sheets, track color samples and mounting photos for any submittal.
+Permanent or traditional Christmas lights: which fits a two-story home?
On a two-story new build with upper eaves 20 feet or more up under the pines, permanent track removes the hardest part of every seasonal install, the ladder and lift work on upper rooflines, and adds color scenes all year. On an original one-story ranch with low eaves, traditional C9s are simple to hang each season and give the classic bulb look for December. Our permanent vs traditional comparison walks through the tradeoffs, and combining both is always an option.
+How does a permanent system handle Houston summers, storms and freezes?
The components are rated for outdoor use through Houston heat and the occasional freeze, and nothing comes down each season. Track under the eave stays out of direct rain and harsh summer sun, and connections are sealed against humidity and wind-driven rain. On wooded village lots the bigger risk is a falling limb, so we route runs clear of branches touching the roofline. After a major storm, check the roofline and call us if a run looks damaged.
+Do you install permanent lights in Hunters Creek Village?
Yes, and our permanent Christmas lights in Hunters Creek Village page covers that area. Before a consult in either village, walk the house at dusk and note which elevations you actually see from the drive and the back patio. On wooded lots the rear elevation facing the pool often deserves its own zone, while a front gable hidden behind pines may not need track at all.
