Christmas Light Installation: steep gable outlined in red and warm white C9 bulbs

Your Katy Christmas Light Hanging Service

Christmas light installation in Katy starts with the way the town was built. Many homes in Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows, Cane Island and Elyson are two-story production builds with hip roofs, a tall front gable over the entry and a front-load garage, and the upper eave often sits close to 20 feet above the driveway. That height is why so many families hire Christmas light installers instead of borrowing a ladder. Glacier Lights takes the whole job off your weekend: we design from photos or a site visit, supply the commercial-grade LED, hang it with our own crew and return in January to take it down.

Katy's open prairie setting shapes how every strand is hung. North winds behind a December cold front cross the flat land west of Houston with little to slow them down, and clear, calm nights can run a few degrees colder than central Houston. Our crews space C9 bulbs at 12 inches along the eaves, lock each socket into gutter clips or shingle clips so lines stay straight through a gust, and keep every plug connection raised off the ground, where Katy's flat, slow-draining prairie soils can leave standing water after a heavy rain. Strands are cut to length, so no spare coils sit behind a downspout collecting water.

Katy Holiday Light Installation, Roof to Takedown

A Katy install covers the whole front of the property, not just the roof. We outline the eaves, gable rakes and garage line, wrap the trunks of front-yard live oaks and crepe myrtles from the ground to the first branch, fill boxwood and yaupon beds with mini lights, and hang wreaths or garland at the entry. Then we plan power and cord runs from your existing outdoor outlets, usually the GFCI on the porch or the outlet beside the garage door, and set a timer, or a dusk-sensing photocell timer that runs for the number of hours you choose.

Christmas lights in Katy go up in a short window between early November and the Thanksgiving school break, so we plan the season backward from Thanksgiving week. If your family travels then, ask for a date the week before. Our Christmas light installation service runs the same calendar across Houston, and each January our crew removes every strand, labels it by roof section and stores it until next fall. If you would rather never book another ladder day, compare this with permanent Christmas lights in Katy, which mount along the eaves, stay up all year and change color from an app.

  • ✓ Eaves, gable rakes and garage line
  • ✓ Trunk wraps from ground to first branch
  • ✓ Mini lights in boxwood and yaupon beds
  • ✓ Timer or dusk-on photocell timer
  • ✓ January takedown with labeled storage

Katy Install Prep

Getting Your Katy Home Ready for Christmas Light Installation

A little prep before install day saves redesigns and dark sections later in the season. These four steps are written for the way Katy homes and lots are actually set up: builder outlets, rooftop equipment, irrigated lawns and gusty cold fronts. Most take ten minutes on a weekend afternoon, and each one saves a ladder move or a service visit later.

01

Find the builder's holiday outlet and its switch

Many newer Katy builds include an exterior outlet tucked into the soffit under the front eave, wired to a wall switch inside, often in the garage or beside the front door. It is the natural power source for a roofline, if you know which switch controls it. Before install day, flip likely switches and test the outlet with a plug-in lamp, then check whether a garage refrigerator or freezer sits on the same GFCI, because a rain-tripped outlet would shut it off along with the roofline. Tell us what you find so the roofline can be routed to it.

02

Point out solar panels, dishes and vents

Some Katy roofs carry more than shingles: a solar array on the south or west face, a satellite dish on a back eave, turtle vents and plumbing stacks near the gables. Clips never attach to solar panels, their wiring or the critter guard around an array, so an eave that runs under panels may be lit from the gutter lip instead, or left dark on that face. Circle each panel, dish and roof-mounted camera on your quote photos, and tell us if your solar warranty limits work near the array.

03

Tell your lawn crew and adjust the sprinklers

Many Katy master-planned lots have in-ground irrigation and a weekly mowing crew, and both are hard on holiday lighting. A string trimmer can nick a cord running along a bed edge, and a spray head aimed at the porch can soak a plug connection every morning. After install, ask the crew to point out where cords run, text your yard service a photo, and turn any heads that hit lit shrubs. Dormant St. Augustine needs far less water in November and December, so trimming the schedule helps the lawn too.

04

Plan for cold fronts before and after install day

If a front with strong north winds is forecast on your install date, ladder work may shift by a day for the crew's safety, so keep a backup date in mind. Fronts also test the finished work, and on Katy's open lots the north- and west-facing eaves take the hardest gusts. The evening after a front passes, look at the roofline from the street and text us a photo of any section that sags or flickers, so we can schedule a service visit.

Katy Christmas Light Installation FAQ

+How much does Christmas light installation cost in Katy?
The biggest drivers are the linear feet of roofline, whether the upper eaves are two stories up, the roof pitch, how many trees you want wrapped and how high each wrap climbs, and the number of shrubs, wreaths and garland runs. An older one-story home near Old Town Katy and a two-story corner lot in Cinco Ranch can differ a lot. Send photos for a free custom quote, and see our Houston installation cost guide for typical industry ranges.
+When should I book holiday light installation in Katy?
September or October is the sweet spot. Our install season starts in early November and builds toward Thanksgiving weekend, when many Katy households like to flip the switch for the first time. Booking early gives you a real choice of dates and leaves time to finish the design from photos or a site visit. Later requests can sometimes be fit in, but options narrow as December approaches. Our guide to install timing walks through the full calendar.
+Can you hang Christmas lights on a tile or metal roof?
Yes. Concrete tile appears on some Mediterranean-style homes around Katy, and standing-seam metal is common over porches and bay windows on newer farmhouse builds. On tile, we use clips that grip the bottom edge of the tile or attach to the gutter, and we work from ladders at the eave instead of walking on brittle pieces. On metal, clips grip the seam or the drip edge. Tile homes take longer to clip, so tell us when you book.
+What happens if a section goes dark after a cold front?
Call us and we schedule a service visit. In-season service calls are part of every install. When a strong front pushes through Katy, the usual culprits are a GFCI tripped by heavy rain, a plug pulled loose by wind or a bulb cracked by a falling limb. Before you call, try resetting the GFCI in the garage or on the porch, which clears many outages. If it does not, our crew handles the repair on the roof.
+Do you also install Christmas lights in Fulshear, TX?
Yes. Fulshear sits just southwest of Katy along FM 1093 and FM 359, and its larger lots and acreage call for a different plan, with longer cord runs from the house, lit entry gates and trees set farther back. See Christmas light installation in Fulshear for that area. Homes on acreage there may call for an on-site consult rather than a photo quote, because the distance from an outlet to a front gate is hard to judge from pictures.
