Christmas Light Installation: modern home and pool courtyard outlined in warm white Christmas lights

Houston Christmas Light Installers Who Handle the Whole Season

With Glacier, Christmas light installation in Houston never puts you on a ladder. As a full Christmas light hanging service, we design the display, supply commercial-grade LED C9, C7 and mini lights and keep it lit through New Year’s. November afternoons here can still reach the 80s, a south-facing roof gets far hotter than the air, and composition shingles turn slick after a humid morning. Store-bought C9 sets come in fixed lengths, often 25 feet, that never end exactly at a gable peak. Our crews cut each run to land where your roofline does, so the last bulb sits on the gable peak and the plug end drops at the downspout nearest your outlet.

In January we come back, unclip every strand without marking shingles or paint, and coil and label each run by roofline, so next fall’s install starts from lights already cut to your house. The process is the same behind a gate in Piney Point Village, on a live-oak-lined street in West University Place or at a newer two-story in Cypress: a free design consult on site or from photos, a written quote, a November install date and lights on by Thanksgiving weekend. A full-service holiday light installation also covers the details people forget, like a timer that switches on at dusk and off at a set hour, and cords tucked behind shrubs instead of across the front walk.

What’s Included in Every Glacier Install

Every project starts with a free design consult, on site or from photos, to plan rooflines, ridges, gables, columns, trees and the entry. We measure each run and build it from commercial spool wire, with sockets at 12-inch spacing for C9 rooflines or 8-inch spacing for C7s on smaller eaves and windows, and a slide-on plug placed exactly where the run meets its power source. Clips are matched to your roof, from gutter lips to clay tile (see the roof guide below). Trees are lit species by species, from live oak trunk wraps to woven magnolia canopies; see outdoor tree lighting for how each is done. Wreaths and garland finish the door and balconies.

Houston weather sets the standard for the hardware. December cold fronts arrive with gusty north winds and hard rain, so every clip is seated firmly and every plug-in point is planned before install day. On a two-story, the cord drop is planned down a downspout or an inside corner, so no cord crosses a window or the front door. LEDs draw a fraction of the power of incandescent C9s, so a long roofline can usually run from the outlets you already have. Want a design built around a family home? See residential Christmas lights. Tired of booking every fall? Compare it with permanent lighting, which stays on the eave year-round.

Houston Install Planning Guide

How to Prep Your Home for Christmas Light Installation

A clean install starts before the crew arrives. Four things shape how a Houston display looks and runs: the outlets it plugs into, the photos you send for a quote, the roof it clips onto and the date it is booked. Sort them out in September or October and install day in November goes smoothly.

01

Check Outdoor Outlets, GFCIs & Timers

Walk the house and note every exterior outlet: porch, garage front, soffit and any near the beds. Press the test button on each GFCI and confirm it resets, because a GFCI that trips in a December downpour is one of the most common reasons a display goes dark. Find the reset that controls each outlet; in many Houston homes it sits in the garage or a bathroom. If the front of the house has no outdoor outlet at all, have your electrician add one before install day. We plan cord runs and timers around the outlets you have.

02

What to Send for a Photo Quote

A photo quote works when the photos show what the crew will see. Send a straight-on shot of the front from the street, one of each side you want lit and a close-up of the roof edge so we can see the gutters, drip edge, shingle, tile or slate. Add each tree with a person or the front door in frame for scale, and mark your outdoor outlets. Tell us the number of stories, any gate code or access rules and your association’s guidelines. We reply with a design and a written quote, or suggest an on-site consult if the house needs one.

03

Houston Roof Types & the Clips Each Needs

Composition shingle, the most common roof in Houston suburbs, takes all-in-one clips that hook the gutter lip or slide under the shingle edge at the eave, plus ridge clips along the cap. Clay and concrete tile on Mediterranean and Spanish-style homes needs tile clips at the eave and careful footing, since a cracked tile means a roof repair; slate gets the same care. Standing-seam metal on modern farmhouses takes clips that grip the seam, never screws through the panel. Flat roofs and parapets on contemporary builds use parapet clips. Seasonal lights are never nailed, screwed or stapled into the house.

04

The Houston Booking Calendar, Month by Month

September and October are for booking and design. Installs run from early November, and the weeks right before Thanksgiving book first because most streets light up on Thanksgiving weekend. Leave room for weather: a rained-out install moves to the next open slot, which is easier to absorb in early November than the week of Thanksgiving. December is for enjoying it, with in-season service calls if a strand fails. Takedown runs in January, after New Year’s, when the lights are labeled and stored for next season. Hosting an early December party? Mention it when you book so the install date lands ahead of it.

Christmas Light Installation FAQs

+What does a Christmas light hanging service include?
With Glacier, the whole season: a free design consult on site or from photos, commercial-grade LED C9, C7 and mini lights, clips matched to your roof, outdoor cords and timers, custom-cut installation, in-season service calls, January takedown and off-season storage. You never buy, test or untangle a strand, and there is no bin of lights to store in your garage.
+How much does Christmas light installation cost in Houston?
It depends on the house, so every Glacier quote is custom and free. The biggest drivers are linear feet of roofline, the number of stories and the roof pitch, the roof material (tile and slate take more care than shingles), how many trees are wrapped and how large they are, and extras like garland and wreaths. Send photos for a written quote, and see our Houston cost guide for typical industry ranges.
+When should I book Christmas light installation in Houston?
Book in September or October. Installs run from early November, and the two weeks before Thanksgiving fill first because most homeowners want to be lit for Thanksgiving weekend. An early install is not wasted: the display sits dark on its timer until the night you choose. Our install timing guide walks through the season from booking to January takedown.
+Do Christmas light installers supply the lights, or do I?
Glacier supplies everything: commercial-grade LED C9s, C7s and mini lights, plus spool wire, clips, outdoor cords and timers. C9s are the standard for rooflines because their larger bulb reads clearly from the street, while C7s suit smaller eaves, windows and walkways. Every run is cut to your home rather than pieced together from retail sets. Read C7 vs C9 Christmas lights to see the difference.
+Do you install Christmas lights on tile or slate roofs?
Yes. Clay tile, concrete tile and slate crack under a boot, so the crew works from ladders at the eave wherever the edge is reachable and walks the field only when there is no other way. Lights attach at the eave and ridge with clips made for tile. Not sure whether your tile is clay or concrete? A close photo of the eave tells us.
+What happens if part of my display stops working?
Call or text us and we schedule a service visit; in-season service calls are included with every install. Common causes are a GFCI outlet tripped by a hard rain, a timer knocked off schedule by a power outage, or a bulb loosened by cold-front wind. Text a photo of the dark section with your address; it tells the crew which run to check and what to bring.
+When do you take Christmas lights down?
In January, after New Year’s, on a date we set with you when you book. If your HOA or deed restrictions name a removal date, or you want the display up through a January event, tell us at booking and we schedule takedown around it.
