Event & Wedding Lighting: modern farmhouse gables outlined in alternating red and warm white bulbs

Event Lighting Designed for the Moment You’ll Remember

Event lighting in Houston is less about how many lights you rent and more about where the light lands. A warm wash on the walls makes a ballroom or a barn feel full, a canopy of market lights turns a tented lawn into a room, and wrapped live oaks over a dance floor become the backdrop in every photo. Glacier lights weddings, rehearsal dinners, quinceañeras, galas, corporate holiday parties and milestone celebrations at private estates, backyards and event venues across Greater Houston, indoors or out. We plan the layout around your floor plan, your palette and the moment you want people to notice, whether that is the first dance, a grand entrance or the toast.

Wedding uplighting does most of the work: battery-powered LED uplights along the walls or at each column, set to soft amber, blush or your accent color, with no cords for guests to trip over. Outside, S14 market lights or smaller G40 globe bistro strands crisscross a tent or run from the house eaves to weighted poles over the lawn. On a narrow backyard lot in the Heights, strands can zigzag from the back of the house to a detached garage. Live oaks and magnolias near the ceremony site can take uplights at their base or wrapped trunks. We install before anyone arrives and test every strand.

What’s Included When We Light Your Event

We start with a venue walk-through or a photo and floor-plan consult, then plan power and cable runs, uplight positions and the hanging points for every strand. We coordinate with your planner, venue manager, rental company and tent company so lighting goes in after the tent is pitched and before tables, linens and florals, while ladders still have open floor. Cords run along tent walls and under matting, never across a dance floor or a catering path, and every connection is lifted and covered. Plug-in dimmers on string-light runs let the space glow brighter for dinner and softer for dancing. Everything is tested before guests arrive, and our crew lead works from the planner’s timeline.

Houston weather turns in every season: spring storm lines in April and May, summer heat that pushes ceremonies toward sunset after 8 p.m., and December fronts that can drop a garden party 20 degrees by dessert. A May ceremony at 7:30 p.m. starts in daylight, so string lights matter most after dinner; a December party at 6 p.m. starts in the dark, so the entry and walkways need light from the first guest. Every cable run is secured against wind. Hosting at home for the holidays? Pair your party with a full residential Christmas light display, or browse wedding uplighting ideas for colors and placement that photograph beautifully.

Event Lighting Planning Guide

Planning Event Lighting for a Houston Venue

Event lighting works when it is planned alongside the floor plan, not added at the end. These four decisions shape how a Houston wedding, gala or party looks in person and in photos: uplight placement and dimming, power for tents and backyards, a weather backup, and a load-in timeline your planner can run.

01

Uplighting Placement & Dimming

Set uplights 6 to 12 inches from the wall, aimed straight up, every 8 to 10 feet, so each beam overlaps the next into an even wash. Feature columns, arches, the cake table backdrop and the trunks of nearby oaks. Uplighting only reads once overhead light comes down, so agree a chandelier or house-light dimmer level with the venue manager for dinner and dancing. Walk the room at the hour of the event if you can, since low sun through west-facing windows can wash out uplights until sunset. On historic brick or stone, warm white brings out texture that strong color would flatten.

02

Tent & Backyard Power

Count the loads before you count the lights. Bistro canopies, catering equipment, a DJ and fans can all want the same outdoor outlet, and one household circuit can trip long before the strands run out. We plan cord runs from existing outdoor outlets and keep string-light runs within the manufacturer’s connection limits. Tell us what else plugs in at the house that night, such as a bar fridge, a fountain pump or patio heaters. For large tents, your rental company may supply a generator, and we coordinate its placement so noise and exhaust stay away from guests.

03

A Houston Weather Backup Plan

Ask the venue for a covered fallback space and design lighting for both, or light the tent so the party can move inside without changes. Tent sidewalls on standby and cable runs secured against gusts keep the plan flexible. Decide in advance which lighting moves with the party: uplights on a lawn can be picked up and re-aimed under the tent, but a bistro canopy stays where it was hung. If the ceremony is outdoors and the reception is covered, light the reception space first, since it gets used either way.

04

A Load-In Timeline Your Planner Can Run

Share the venue access window first, because it sets everything. Send us the tent company’s pitch time, since lighting cannot start until it is up. A mid-size tented reception with a bistro canopy and uplighting often needs about a half-day load-in, so for a 6 p.m. start, plan venue access from late morning; we confirm the time from your floor plan. Tell us the venue’s hard out time and whether rentals must leave that night, since that decides when the crew returns. Put our crew lead’s number on the planner’s contact sheet.

Event & Wedding Lighting FAQs

+How far ahead should I book event lighting in Houston?
For weddings and galas, as soon as your date and venue are set, since spring and fall Saturdays are peak wedding dates in Houston’s mild seasons. December holiday parties overlap with the Christmas installation season, so book those by early fall. Corporate events at a fixed venue can book later, but the earlier we see the floor plan, the more options you have for uplighting and hanging points.
+How many uplights do I need for a wedding reception?
A common rule of thumb is one uplight every 8 to 10 feet of wall, plus one at each column, arch or tree you want to feature. A ballroom with 160 feet of wall might use 16 to 20 fixtures, while a tented lawn may need fewer, aimed at tent legs and nearby trees. The goal is an even wash with no dark gaps or hot spots. We plan the count from your floor plan and photos.
+What uplighting colors look good in wedding photos?
Warm amber, champagne and soft white flatter skin tones on camera. Blush, lavender or a muted accent can echo your florals, but keep saturated blues and greens on the walls and away from faces, where they make skin look sallow. Use one color across the room so photos stay consistent, and ask your photographer before you choose. Our uplighting guide has more color and placement ideas.
+Can you light a tent or a backyard event?
Yes. Bistro and market light canopies, perimeter swags, poles set in weighted planters, tree uplighting and wrapped trunks suit tented and backyard events at private homes. We confirm hanging points with your tent company, keep strands about 10 to 12 feet up so servers and tall guests clear them, and plan cord runs from existing outdoor outlets or the generator your rental company supplies.
+Do you work with my planner, venue and tent company?
Yes. We share a lighting plan and load-in time with your planner, follow the venue’s rules for access, hanging and power, and schedule around the tent company so strands go up after the tent is pitched and before tables and florals go in. On event day we work from the planner’s timeline.
+What happens to outdoor event lighting if it rains?
Outdoor-rated strands and sealed connections can run in rain; the real decision is where guests will be. Agree a weather call time with your planner, usually the morning of, and we can light the fallback space at the same time as the main layout, so switching does not mean a re-hang. Battery uplights help on wet lawns because no cord has to cross the grass.
+Do you set up and take everything down?
Yes. We install before guests arrive and take everything down the same night or the next day, depending on the venue’s rules and your rental return times. You, your family and your guests never handle a cord, a ladder or an uplight. We light indoor ballrooms, halls and barns too, following each venue’s load-in and load-out schedule.
