Event & Wedding Lighting: turret and gables outlined in red and white Christmas lights

Event Lighting for Tanglewood Backyards and Uptown Venues

Event lighting in Tanglewood usually starts in the backyard. Deep lots here can hold a rehearsal dinner under the oaks, a milestone birthday by the pool, or a full tented reception without anyone feeling crowded, and mature trees give the space a ready-made frame. What those yards need after sunset is light that shapes the space. We design bistro and market strands in long parallel runs or crisscross canopies over the tables, warm uplights at the base of tall pines so they rise like columns, and soft path lighting from the drive to the yard, so guests in dress shoes can cross the lawn with confidence.

Beyond the neighborhood, Uptown fills December with corporate parties: courtyard receptions at office towers, terrace events high above the street, and client nights in hotel ballrooms and restaurant private dining rooms. We light indoor venues as well as outdoor ones, with uplighting on walls, columns, and draping, and string lights over patios and terraces. Our crew loads in ahead of the caterer and florist where the venue allows, works with the venue's event manager and dock schedule, and strikes everything after the party, the same night or the next day, depending on the venue. Your team stays focused on guests, not extension cords.

  • ✓ Crisscross and parallel bistro canopies
  • ✓ Uplit pines, oaks and facades
  • ✓ Indoor ballroom and terrace uplighting
  • ✓ Strike same night or next day, per venue

How We Plan Wedding Lighting in Tanglewood

Planning starts with a walk-through with you or your planner, ideally at the hour the event begins so we see where the last daylight falls, or with photos and the venue's floor plan. We note where the tables, bar, dance floor, band, and photo spots will go, and where the photographer wants clean backgrounds. Then we draw a layout: strand spans, pole and anchor points, uplight positions, and cable routes taped or covered wherever people walk. For a December event, the party lighting can tie into your holiday display so the house and the backyard feel like one design.

Browse the full range of event lighting we offer, from uplit facades to tented dinners. If your company is hosting a holiday party at its own building, our commercial Christmas lights in Tanglewood can dress the exterior to match the evening. Color is planned with your florist and linens, and one uplight color across the space keeps photos consistent. Every event is quoted individually once we have seen the space, in person or in photos, and the quote is free with no obligation to book.

  • ✓ Site walk, or photos of the space
  • ✓ Layout for tables, bar and dance floor
  • ✓ Taped or covered cable routes
  • ✓ Ties into your holiday display
  • ✓ Free custom quote, no obligation

Planning Event and Wedding Lighting in Tanglewood

A backyard event in Tanglewood brings its own logistics: long distances from the house to the tent, tall trees with high limbs, December cold fronts, and guests parking along residential streets. These four planning points help you and your planner make the decisions that keep the lighting safe, powered, and looking right all night.

01

Split the power before the rentals arrive

Bistro strands and LED uplights draw little power, but the caterer's warmers, coffee service, a band's sound system, and patio heaters all compete for the same outdoor outlets. Count the outlets on the back of the house, note which are GFCI-protected, and decide early which ones belong to lighting. We run lighting from the outlets you set aside for it, not the caterer's. If the tent sits far from the house or the load is heavy, your tent or rental company can supply a generator, and we plan its spot with them, well away from the tables.

02

Anchor strands to trees without harming them

Tall pines make tempting anchor points, but their first limbs are often well above 20 feet, and bistro strands look right at a height guests walk under comfortably, usually 9 to 12 feet. We attach to trunks with padded straps, never nails or screws, and add weighted poles where the trees do not line up with the layout. On spans longer than about 15 to 20 feet we hang the strands from a tensioned steel guide wire, so they keep a gentle swag instead of sagging toward the tables when the wind picks up.

03

Have a plan for a December cold front

Houston's December fronts can arrive with a sharp north wind, a temperature drop of 15 or 20 degrees within a few hours, and sometimes rain. Ask your tent company about sidewalls and heaters, and tell us early, because the lighting layout changes once walls go up. We secure strands and fixtures for gusts and keep connections up off wet grass. If the forecast turns, we adjust with your planner so the lighting still works, whether the party stays on the lawn or moves under cover.

04

Light the arrival from the street

Guests at a Tanglewood house party often park along the street or arrive by valet, then walk a long drive in the dark. Lighting that route is part of the event: a lit path from the curb, uplit columns or wrapped trees at the entry, and a warm glow at the gate tell people where to go before anyone has to direct them. Let your neighbors know the date and expected parking, and keep the drive free of cables so cars and valets can move easily.

Tanglewood Event & Wedding Lighting FAQ

+Who provides wedding lighting in Tanglewood?
Glacier designs and installs wedding lighting for Tanglewood backyards, tents, and nearby venues. For a backyard wedding we can time a walk-through to your ceremony hour, then light the ceremony spot, the tent, and the path between them, so the move from ceremony to dinner after sunset feels planned. We coordinate with your planner and your tent, catering, and rental vendors, and everything is tested before guests arrive.
+How much does event lighting cost in Tanglewood?
Each event gets a free custom quote once we have seen the space, because the drivers vary: the size of the canopy and number of strand runs, how many uplights, whether a tent needs interior lighting, and how far power has to travel. A patio rehearsal dinner and a tented reception for 200 are very different jobs. Tell us the guest count, venue, and date, and we will price the design that fits.
+Where should uplighting go at a Tanglewood backyard wedding?
Put uplights where vertical surfaces can catch them: at the base of tall trees, a foot or two out from the trunk, between windows on the back of the house, along tent poles, and behind the band or head table. Warm white or soft amber flatters faces in photos, while color adds energy on the dance floor. Avoid aiming fixtures where guests will look straight into them. Our wedding uplighting ideas guide has more layouts.
+Do you do holiday party lighting at Uptown hotels and offices?
Yes. We light hotel ballrooms, private dining rooms, office event spaces, and terraces. Many Uptown hotels work with an in-house AV company and set rules for outside lighting vendors, so ask your event manager early whether outside uplighting is allowed, which load-in window applies, and whether power has to be ordered through the venue. We coordinate the rest directly with their team.
+Do you light events in Memorial and the nearby villages?
Yes. The wooded lots in Memorial, Piney Point Village, Hunters Creek Village, and Bunker Hill Village plan much like Tanglewood's: tall trees, long drives, and power far from the tent. Our event lighting in Memorial page has more details. We also light events in River Oaks, West University Place, and Bellaire, with the same planning process and free quote.
